Peppermint Whoopie Pies

Its been over a year since I made whoopie pies. The last time I made whoopie pies it was a bit more of a fiasco. It was the week before my wedding and I was trying to make over 600 whoopie pies for the Whoopie Pie Bar Reception Dessert! This time it was much more low key and I was making them for a small family gathering at Christmas. Regardless of whether you are making these peppermint whoopies for your own wedding or for some friends and family, they are guaranteed to be a hit and you will constantly have people reminding you to make some more!  Continue reading

Whoopie Pie Bar!!!

First off, I have to announce that The Male Baker is married! Back on November 5th, I said “I do” to my wonderful wife Hannah. Since then, I cannot stop thinking about the ever soo scrumptious whoopie pie bar at our wedding. Throughout the months before November 5th, I spent a lot of my time thinking about what I could bake for the dessert at our reception. A couple months before our wedding, I decided that whoopie pies would make a classy, delicious, and unique dessert. But just a stack of plain whoopie pies, lacked the zest I wanted for an unforgettable dessert. Luckily, one sunny afternoon in Santa Barbara, Greg Spencer, my father-in-law, came up with a brilliant idea! I am sure his idea came to surface while he was on his front porch, grading way too many papers with a hot cup of coffee at his side…a Whoopie Pie Bar for the wedding! Just pure genius right??!!!! Pumpkin Whoopie Pies with Maple Cream Cheese Filling

For all of you Whoopie Pie lovers, I have found the perfect combination! Just imagine some scrumptious maple cream cheese icing in between two succulent Whoopie’s. Now I have you drooling don’t I! So get right back on your horse and get baking so you can enjoy some decadent treats for yourself.

I baked these Pumpkin Whoopie Pies for my Grandparents 60th Wedding Anniversary along with the Chocolate Nutella Cookies and found that they were just right together. Although very different from the Nutella Cookies, these Pumpkin Whoopie’s fit right in and they added to the celebration for my Grandparents. They were quite pleased on how I had managed to bring in the 61st year of their marriage with such mouth watering flavors, and believe it or not,  grandma almost lost her dentures when her jaw dropped at the sight of them! Luckily she was able to pull it together and have a bite or five of these delicious Whoopie Pies! I hope you enjoy these as much as my family did!

Red Velvet Whoopie Pies With Walnut Cream Cheese Filling

When I think of fancy and elegant baked treats, I think of Red Velvet Whoopie Pies. They are just so good with all that cream cheese jam packed in the middle! I know they are hard to compare to a traditional apple or rhubarb pie but they have all the likings of a real classic dessert. When I made my first batch of Chocolate Whoopie Pies about a month ago I couldn’t believe how simple they were to make. I used to look in recipe books or online for ideas, but whenever I came by some Whoopie pies they just looked too involved and time consuming to bake. That is the worst assumption that I have made in my baking career. Now your thinking, “that is ridiculous Dave, how could you make such an assumption?!” I have no answer to that except don’t make the same mistake as I did, so enjoy and bake away!
