White Flour OR Whole Wheat Flour???

If you are thinking about changing your diet, and you want to notice some big changes, I suggest you look closer at the flours that you use in your everyday baked goods. One day, while in the kitchen, I asked myself “what if I started using whole wheat flour in some of my recipes?” In an attempt to make my recipes healthier this year, I have had to start substituting certain ingredients to make them friendlier to the health conscious consumer. As I was thinking about how this would affect my baked goods, I ended doing some research into the real differences between enriched white flour and whole wheat flour. The research was eye opening. White Chocolate Orange Creamsicle Cookies

If you haven’t ever tried combining orange drink mix (gatorade, powerade) with flour, butter, and white chocolate than you better try these white chocolate creamsicle cookies! I have to be honest, at first glance, this recipe did not look too appealing to me. My initial thought was, “how could you even attempt such a disgusting cookie recipe?” Well, just like me, you will quickly find out that you are wrong. Dark Chocolate Peppermint Oreo Cookies

Santa Barbara really brought the best out of The Male Baker. Seriously, all that sun and all those wonderful people just made my baking mind tick! One day, I found some unopened Candy Cane Joe Joe’s (Trader Joe’s style Oreo’s from the States) left over from Christmas and decided to make cookies out of them. Instead of searching for a recipe online or in a baking book, I opted to use my memory bank and make these cookies from scratch. Crazy thing is that they turned out! I grabbed all sorts of ingredients from the pantry and threw in all different goodies including cocoa powder, dark chocolate chips, Candy Cane Joe Joe’s, kosher salt, and even some whole wheat flour.
