Some desserts can fulfill you in just one bite and boy did these squares do the trick. When I took my first bite of these heavenly Rosemary Apricot Squares my body told me to stop while I was ahead so I wouldn’t get a stomach ache. Mom’s Olive Oil Orange Bundt Cake with Light Orange Glaze

The scent of vitamin C will fill the air in your home when you bake this Olive Oil Orange Bundt Cake. I think I got 200% of my daily vitamin C intake just from the fumes alone on this one! Aside from feeling a slight deficiency in certain vitamins in my diet, I had a semi-sweet-tooth calling yesterday when I woke up in the morning.  I also felt the sudden urge to bake a cake for my cousin who just had a baby girl and needed some baked goods to fill the void. And instead of trying to come up with a gift for a newborn, I concluded that a cake would suffice as my gift! When no other ideas are coming to mind for a baby gift and baking is all you got to offer than fly with it. No one will ever be upset about that! That is unless you burn your baked goods and everyone ends up having a really bad day. On the bright side, I have a new second-cousin named Lucy! Booya! Good work on this one Marty and Aleisha. The Baked Brownie

After a long summer work day outside, I decided that I needed to treat myself to some chocolate. What better way to do so than by concocting up some brownies that even Oprah gave props to on her website! The thing about these brownies is that you gotta watch them closely when they are about to be done. Like everything you bake, you should be in the kitchen and making sure that nothing gets burnt (remember my post about burning baked goods, #1 on the pet-peeve list!). So grab a book, get all comfy and don’t leave the kitchen until a toothpick comes out of these brownies with a few moist crumbs on it. I guarantee that you will feel much better about taking these over to a friends place to enjoy if they are baked for just the right amount of time. Much like I did a few nights ago to watch the Vancouver Canucks lose to the Boston Bruins in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals! This loss also made the brownies taste much more delicious than usual! Sweet and Salty Cookies With Pretzels On Top

Otherwise known as Cowboy Cookies, these cookies bring out all of my favourite tastes to the table. The batter is jam packed with all sorts of goodies, including semi-sweet chocolate, rolled oats, and salty pretzels. The top is decorated with more salty pretzels to impress anyone who takes a bite or even a look. Since I have moved back to Calgary for the summer, it is the perfect time to come out with a recipe like this for all of my fellow Calgarians who love to go to the Calgary Stampede for a hoot and a holler. For all those who have not heard of this event, it is the BIGGEST Outdoor Show on Earth!! With a crazy outdoor rodeo, stomach throwing rides, and the weirdest assortment of carnies, this is an event that needs something like Cowboy Cookies to really make a splash. So get on your cowboy hats, boots, and saddle up while you conjure up this next recipe, and be careful not to get bucked off of your seat in the process!

Red Velvet Whoopie Pies With Walnut Cream Cheese Filling

When I think of fancy and elegant baked treats, I think of Red Velvet Whoopie Pies. They are just so good with all that cream cheese jam packed in the middle! I know they are hard to compare to a traditional apple or rhubarb pie but they have all the likings of a real classic dessert. When I made my first batch of Chocolate Whoopie Pies about a month ago I couldn’t believe how simple they were to make. I used to look in recipe books or online for ideas, but whenever I came by some Whoopie pies they just looked too involved and time consuming to bake. That is the worst assumption that I have made in my baking career. Now your thinking, “that is ridiculous Dave, how could you make such an assumption?!” I have no answer to that except don’t make the same mistake as I did, so enjoy and bake away!

Coconut Engagement Cupcakes!!!

So the word is out there…I am getting hitched! For all of you loyal viewers, I have to tell you about a BIG secret. I know I have been letting you in on a few secrets lately, including the one about the Egg nests, but this one is the biggest of them all. So read the next section very carefully!

This message may not be applicable for everyone reading this, and if thats the case for you, pass it on to a friend or family member that may need some great advice on how to propose to the love of their life. This top secret information that I am about to expose may change the lives of many fiancées to be. Last Saturday, I proposed to my soon-to-be wife Hannah on Mount Rainier mountain. We went snow shoeing for the day, and after I nearly died falling off a cliff, I stumbled out the very important question. I found a little nook nestled amongst some trees, where we went so I could “catch my breath”/propose to Hannah. Breathe in, breathe out. Did she just say yes?! Of course the Male Baker never comes empty handed to momentous occasions, so I promptly busted out a bottle of champagne, 2 crystal glasses, AND the best coconut cupcake she’d ever tasted! We celebrated in style. I used my trusted Baked book and got to baking the day before. The obvious adjustments I made were to add more coconut anywhere in the recipe that I could possibly fit in without ruining the entire batter. This was to prove that I knew her exceptionally well by using one of her favourite tastes everywhere that I could! So take this secret how you want to, but I gotta say that a baked good to celebrate an engagement definitely adds a special touch. So bake away and let me know how things go!
